Austin Vernon Baker


Austin Vernon Baker, 80, of Chillicothe, died Tuesday Jan. 24, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Leavenworth Kan.


Mr. Baker was born January 11, 1909 in Livingston County, a son of William V. Baker and Ida M. Swihart Baker.  He was a farm laborer, and lived all of his life in Livingston County.


He was a member of the Vern R. Glick American Legion Post No. 25.


Survivors include four brothers, Leon Baker, Frederick, Colo.; and Lloyd, Nathan and Bill Baker, all of Chillicothe; two sisters, Goldie Bennett, Topeka, Kan.; and Alice Lucille Baker, Kansas City; and several nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.


Funeral services will be Friday, Jan. 27, at 1 p.m. at the Lindley Funeral Home in Chillicothe, with the Rev. Donald Hoffman officiating. Burial will be in Fairhaven Cemetery, Norborne. Visitation is Thursday, Jan. 26, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends may call after 11 a.m. Thursday
