Sturgis; David R. Weitzel, 64, of 408 N. Lakeview, Sturgis, Mich., died Nov. 13, 2001, at his home.

 

He was born Aug. 30, 1937 in Reading, Pa., a son of Leroy and Miriam (Herm) Weitzel.

 

A veteran of the U. S. Air Force, serving from 1954 to 1956, he was employed as a salesman for the Stanley Company for 25 years.

 

In 1977 he moved to the Sturgis area and on Oct. 14, 1977, he married Patricia Zook in the First Presbyterian Church. While in Sturgis he worked at the Myrtle House for 12 years as a health care attendant and then at Sturgis Tool and Die for 4 years before failing health forced him to retire in 1998.

 

Mr. Weitzel was an avid golfer, was active in the First Presbyterian Church Choir, the Sturgis Civil Players and Alcoholic Anonymous for 27 years.

 

Surviving are his wife, Patricia; one daughter, Lynn Proffit and husband, David, of Sturgis; one son, Kevin Weitzel and wife, Coleen of Phoenix, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Scotland and Skyler, both of Phoenix and Brandon of Sturgis; and two brothers, John and Dick Weitzel both of Columbus, Ohio.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Friends and relatives may call after 6 pm on Thursday at the Rosenberg-Schipper Funeral Home Ltd. of Sturgis, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 pm and also from 4-8 pm Friday. Religious services and a celebration of the life of David Weitzel will be held at 11 am Saturday in the funeral home with Pastor Michael Wicks, First Presbyterian Church, and Rev. James Murphy officiating. Internment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
