Obituary Derwood E. Flemming,

 

Derwood E. Flemming, 57, Galveston, former Kokomo grocer, was found dead in his home at about noon Wednesday by a nephew.  Manford Wolf, Cass County Coroner ruled death from natural causes.  He had operated a grocery store in Kokomo on West Defenbaugh Street in the 1940's.  He was a retired accountant for the Jefferson Diamond Salt Mine at New Iberia, La, and returned to the Kokomo and Galveston areas in February 1972.  He was known as Woody.  Born in Marion, October 1, 1904, he was the son of Elmus and Anna (Kiger) Flemming.  He was married to Marie Gundrum, who preceded him in death on April 16, 1963.  Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Victor Ream, Orange Park Fla.; two grandchildren, and four sisters; Mrs. Jonathan Harper, Sharpsville; Mrs. Meredith Power,  Galveston RR 1; Mrs. Verlin Oldfather, Miami and Mrs. Kenneth Zollman, Kokomo.  Funeral Services will be conducted at the Thomas-Murray Funeral Home here at 2 p.m. Saturday.  Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Kokomo.  Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Friday.
