John E. Weitzel

ONEONTA — John E. Weitzel, 86, of Oneonta, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, at the Robinson Terrace in Stamford where he currently resided.

He was born Jan. 23, 1913, in Honeybrook, Pa., the son of William and Ida (Filmore) Weitzel.

He married Rachel Wakin on Nov. 20, 1941, in St. Mary's Church. She died Feb. 17, 1990.

John retired in 1973 from the D&H Railroad where he was employed for close to 30 years as a painter.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, (Living individuals, omitted for privacy) He is also survived by six great-grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be held Monday, Aug. 23, 1999, at 10 a.m. in the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Longobucco, associate pastor of St. Mary's Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Emmons.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at which time the family will be in attendance.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.
